Chapter 15

Kyle sat next to Chloe as she stared out the window at the clouds from their seats.

“Are you ready to talk about what happened on our way to the airport?” he asked.

Chloe smiled to herself. “I don’t want to upset the baby.”

Kyle frowned. “So it’s comical now?”

“Almost farcical,” she answered.

He turned her face to his. “You like to play with fire.”

“I told you I was dangerous. We could’ve just stopped and dealt with them,” Chloe offered.

“Ray’s orders were to get out now.” Kyle replied. “He didn’t want any more bodies.”

She shrugged. “And that’s what we did.”

Kyle shook his head. “Girl, you are something else.”

Chloe touched his face. “First of all, I’d never leave you in a deadly situation, just like you’d never leave me.”

Holding his gaze, she continued. “If you tell me to do something that makes sense, I’ll comply immediately, but I won’t ever do anything that will put you in harm’s way.”

Kyle heard the conviction in her voice and slowly smiled at her. “Now I can’t even be mad at you.”

“Good.” She kissed him softly. “We only have a few more hours to be a couple on vacation.”

He took her hand in his. “Did you enjoy your vacation Mrs. Washington?”

Chloe smiled. “Yes, I did. How could I not with such a handsome and protective husband?”

Kyle sat back. “We should go on a real vacation.”

“Together?” Chloe questioned looking over at him.

He closed his eyes. “Nah, I’m talking about taking her.”

Chloe grabbed his shirt and brought her face to his. “Don’t play with me.”

Laughing, he opened his eyes to look into her flashing ones. “Where do you want to go, Bae?”

She moved back to her seat and looked away. “I don’t know…”

Hearing something in her voice, Kyle sat up and looked at her. “What’s wrong?”

Chloe closed her eyes to regain her emotions, something that rarely happened but seemingly Kyle was able to evoke very easily.

“You’re serious,” she told him.

“What did I tell you last night?” he asked.

She turned to him. “You told me a lot of things.”

“Yeah, I did and I know you remember all of them.”

Chloe felt a tingle down her spine remembering the things Kyle had spoken to her during their last night together. Not only had she enjoyed both his words and actions, she also liked how he didn’t tolerate her dodging his questions.

“Senegal,” she answered.

“Where the Blackman brothers are from?” he questioned with a frown.

“I don’t want to see them, I want to visit the African Renaissance Monument,” Chloe explained.

Kyle gave her a look before answering. “That does look amazing. I’d like to see it up close myself.”

“See, and you were about to start tripping,” she teased.

“I wish you would tell me that you wanted me to take you somewhere to see those damn brothers.”

Chloe placed a hand on his chest. “Why would I want to see them, when I have the perfect guy right here?”

“So now I’m perfect?”

She stared at him. “Perfect to me.”

Kyle heard the sincerity in her voice, then leaned in and touched his lips to hers.
